Kevin Smith conceived the concept for Smith Rodgers while handling “technical assistance” legal inquiries with NCJA colleagues Reece Trimmer, Ralph Strickland, and Greg Rodgers in the mid-1990s; a recognition of the need for legal support beyond standard office hours. Beginning in 2001, the newly-created Smith Rodgers accomplished the goal of providing legal support around-the-clock in real time. The Cary Police Department and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office were the firm’s first clients. Today, Smith Rodgers serves dozens of agencies statewide: large, medium, and small.
