Senior Staff Attorney

John is well known throughout the Police and Sheriffs community, having retired as a Special Deputy Attorney General with the Law Enforcement Liaison Section before his more recent role as Assistant General Counsel for the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association.

John has authored numerous publications on various aspects of North Carolina’s firearms laws, domestic violence laws, and North Carolina’s sex offender registration program. He is also the recipient of our state’s highest civilian award, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, in addition to being awarded the Legion of Merit for his work in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

As a member of Smith Rodgers Aldridge, John joins our staff in providing real-time, 24/7 legal support to North Carolina law enforcement.

Experience

John served in the United States Air Force, both active duty and Reserve, retiring in 2008 at the rank of Colonel.
