DISTRICT ATTORNEY, 30th Prosecutorial District (Haywood, Jackson, Swain, Macon, Clay, Graham and Cherokee Counties) (2003, by appointment of Governor Mike Easley)

29th Prosecutorial District (McDowell, Rutherford, Polk, Henderson and Transylvania Counties) (four elected terms, 1982 to 1994)

-- Advised law enforcement agencies, managed the District Attorney’s Office, prosecuted hundreds of jury trials in Superior Court, specializing in capital murder cases and the prosecution of other crimes of violence, sexual offenses, controlled substance violations and DWI.
